Lumen Path — Threshold, the entry; hard shadow from a single high opening
(01)Thresholdthe entry

The entry is deliberately narrow and cut by one hard shadow, so the long room reads as a release rather than a continuation.

The living composition sits along the axis rather than across it, so the sun tracks over the seating instead of stopping at it.

The curationDescription

Daylight walked through travertine and long sightlines.

Lumen Path is built around a single east–west axis. Every surface in it was chosen for how it behaves at nine in the morning, when the light is hard and unforgiving and travertine is the only material that improves under it.

Because the sun moves along the plan rather than across it, the composition is read as one continuous room with six changes of purpose. Nothing blocks the axis: the seating sits parallel to it, the table stands where it is widest, and the planted court filters the light before it arrives.

Lumen Path — Light directive: Design for nine in the morning, when the light is hardest.
(01)LightDirective

Design for nine in the morning, when the light is hardest.

The axis is set east–west so the sun travels the length of the plan instead of hitting it side-on. There are no downlights above any seating; after dark the room is washed from the walls, and the only fittings you see are three lamps at hand height.

Lumen Path — Material directive: Travertine, undyed linen, pale oak. Nothing with sheen.
(02)MaterialDirective

Travertine, undyed linen, pale oak. Nothing with sheen.

Travertine is honed rather than polished so it holds hard light without glaring. Linen and bouclé are the only textiles, both undyed. There is no black anywhere in the composition — the darkest tone in the plan is the shadow itself.

Lumen Path — Form directive: One sightline, never interrupted.
(03)FormDirective

One sightline, never interrupted.

Everything is placed parallel to the axis, and the anchor is a 3.6 metre stone table in a single piece. Nothing tall stands in the middle of the plan; the only interruption permitted is the planted court, which exists to soften the light rather than to divide the room.

Lumen Path — Furniture directive: Long, low and parallel — furniture that defers to the axis.
(04)FurnitureDirective

Long, low and parallel — furniture that defers to the axis.

A 3.2 metre linen sofa, two bouclé chairs, twelve dining seats: all of it low enough to keep the sightline open. Objects are limited to one turned travertine bowl and the planting, which is treated as a material and not as decoration.
